Brahms – Piano concerto no.2, Alessio Bax, piano
In the midst of an exciting international career, the expressive Italian pianist Alessio Bax comes to West Michigan for a powerful rendition of Johannes Brahms’ largest work for piano and orchestra. This unusual four-movement concerto, one of the most challenging and rewarding in the repertoire, opens with a famous horn solo and includes an extended solo for cello. The concert also features Richard Strauss’ tone poem Don Juan, chronicling the loves and loss of an iconic figure and catapulting a young composer onto the world stage.
